Default Testing a cable feed?..Any ideas?

Hi all!!

My parents moved into their current home in 1995 and the previous owners were connected up to the then NTL. The cable feed is just lying curled up on the floor behind their tv cabinet as they do not subscribe to VM.

I have read here that the feed is not necessarily cut off when a customer moves house as the new owners may subscribe once moved in?. Is there a way to test if the cable is still providing a feed and if so what equipment would i need to test it before proceeding with a Eurovox purchase?

I know the most preferred way is to get a VM minimum subscription but i would still be intrigued to find out. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi mate , you could change the connector(Or get a adapter) on the end of the cable feed & stick it straight in the back of your tele,do a auto tune & see does it pick up bbc1,bbc2,1tv ect. Im not sure if all areas will pick up a signal this way but if it does then your line should be ok.

Thanks for the advice Roco!

I was wondering if there was some kind of feed tester you could buy and attach to check if the cable was still live or not?. Is there anything like that out there on the market?

that wont do much. it may light up when connected to an active phoneline but is intended to trace telephone cables not test signals

spit on your fingers (both hands) grab the inner core of the cable feed and touch a radiator or pipe in your home.

its only a tickle and wont hurt you....... much!

dont go sticking it in your mouth tho, lol
