Default Manhattan output problem

Hi there!

I have a Manhattan ST100 Plaza receiver which gives excellent reception from our 80 cm dish to our main TV. We also feed a bedroom TV via coaxial between the Manhattan UHF Modulator Output and a 'return' wall socket. This gives perfect reception to the bedroom TV.

Recently I had the need for an extra coaxial cable and decided I could utilise the existing cable described above as it was easily long enough to make 2 cables. This I did, but having reconnected the now shorter cable between the Manhattan and the 'return' wall socket we have lost the satellite channel on the bedroom TV ! Even replacing the shortened cable with a brand new coaxial connection makes no difference. I noticed when I disconnected the original longer cable from the Manhattan UHF Modular Output that it was a very tight connection and took quite a tug to remove it. Is it possible I may have damaged this Output socket internally in the process, as externally it looks undamaged ? I would be grateful for any help as I am really bemused by this!

Sounds like you have broken the output. You could open it up and resolder the connection.

Whats the point when you can get a new one for under £2

I only pay 98p each for them at work unless its the more expenive shielded one at £1.79

Have a look on ebay for them or try your local sat / TV shop. You could also try your local hardware shop although you will probably pay nearer the £5 mark.

I read it as it was the UHF socket on the back of the STB that wasn't working.

Thanks guys. The manual says you should NEVER open up the box as you risk electrocution !! I guess I would unplug it from the electric first !! I will have a look to see if there is any internal damage and my next post may be from the grave !!

Well I survived opening the box! There are no leads or anything just a small silver box where both the ANT IN and TV OUT disappear into. It doesn't obviously open up and doesn't look like it is supposed to be removed!

I may have to admit defeat here and replace the receiver. Does anybody know where I could get a second-hand one and does it have to be the exact same one or any other box?

Thanks again.

Id check the connections between the silver box and the pcb, if any of them are broken its repairable. As for a second hand box i'd try ebay.

Thanks Rick, but how the silver box connects to the PCB is not visible so there's not much I can do. There is an unutilised scart connector at the back of the receiver which is described in the manual as "Euroscart for VCR". Is it possible to utilise this with a scart breakout to coaxial (if there is such a thing) and plug this into the wallsocket ? If not I'll check ebay but will any receiver do the trick or do I need an identical one to pick up Hotbird?

You could get an RF Modulator to convert the scart signal to RF. I think that these are quite expensive though. Most boxes will recieve hotbird. I have a fortec star box, and hotbird chanels aren't a problem. You just need to check the features of the box to make sure you don't loose anything you might have already like Blind Scan. Not familiar with your reciever so can't really advise further on that.
