well here i am again, thinking of buying a new pc,at the mo i got a hp pc, now all new pc dont have a port to use the null modem,just the ethernet while you can always put a pci card in to get an extra port for the ethernet, but what do you use to replace the null modem port, which all new pcs dont have,???? is it a cable to go from the 9 pin null modem cable to a usb ?? or what, cheers in advance to any help,

yes the null modem cable connects to a usb adaptor
picture of usb adaptor here (but a lot cheaper off EBay) USB to Serial 9-Pin Male Adaptor > Maplin

if your getting new pc get a pc card to have a serial port
just plug into spare slot on main board

the usb to serial do work.? but a serial card is better

thks all going to try the usb way, cus got a new pci card so wont have to keep chaning ip, then i may try the usb first cheers
