I'm afraid the attack just happened again this evening - these things can last a couple of days and come in waves, but hopefully we can ride this one out shortly.

The techs sent a report - the traffic spike is massive - 460Mbps. It's still uncertain where it's coming from, or even why it's aiming here, but I suspect we're not a directly intended target for a DDoS, but instead that it involves a funky script running wild somewhere that's happened to impact this domain.

It's usually worse at the start, so I think we'll be moving through the end of it pretty soon - not least because TW has managed to stay up most of the day.

Just to let you know the IPs are being filtered now, so things should definitely start calming down.

Okay, trying some extra things this morning - may slow the site down, but should hopefully keep us online.

I'd like to offer my sincere apologies to all for any downtime we've had already, but hopefully we should be able to minimise this.

the web based retailer `overclockers.co.uk` have had exactly the same problem witha DDos attack and are putting up a £10,000 reward for a prosecution resulting in a conviction !.

Some serious ****e happening just of late with server attacks.

Just to let you know this is a direct attack on Techwatch, and there have been a couple of posts sent demanding payment to stop these attacks.

In other words, some bunch of muppets is using a botnet to attack the site, blackmail us to stay online, and the DDoS attacks will continue unless we pay up.

Not a chance, so I've been busy locking down the site to restrict traffic access and minimise the chances of further disruption.

In the meantime, sincere apologies for the downtime and limited access - going to try and run smoothly through today.

I don't think that you have anything to apologise for Brian. Have you thought about contacting the police over this ?
