Default System for receiving Turkish TV or Digiturk channels

Hello

I was wondering if someone could help me? My wife is asking for Turkish TV channels - basically everything that we used to be able to get on Digiturk in Turkey.

I was thinking of buying a motorised dish + receiver to get these channels. Can anyone tell me:

1) Can I use a digiturk card in a receiver in the UK?
2) What kind/size of dish do I need? I am in Nottingham, UK
3) What kind of receiver would you recommend. I currently have Sky TV.
4) Do I need a specific Digiturk receiver with a card? or can I pick up the channels as free-to-air people do in Turkey with a normal receiver?

Thank you in advance for any help. Also, if anyone knows anyone in the Nottingham area who would install/supply the system for me I would be eternally grateful.

Lee

Hello and welcome to Tech Watch

1. Yes you can use your card but will need an approriate common interface module that will keep the card active, these are available in the UK
2. You will need to get a 100cm dish
3. Receiver depends on what features you want and if you want to receive HD channels and record facility
3. As point one no specific receiver is needed apart from one with a cam slot.

Installation of a motorised system is around £180, but why not try yourself?

Thank you for your reply.

1) Do I buy this interface module with the receiver? How do I know which one is an appropriate one? I assume I would need to get a digiturk card from Turkey? Does this interface module keep the card active without a subscription? Forgive my ignorance but I really do not much about satellite TV.

2) I am not too bothered about HD because I am sure they are more expensive, but I would like to be able to record. What are good recommendations for a good receiver which doesn't record and a receiver which does record? thanks. I would need to be able to point to at least 3 of the Turksat satellites

3) I would have a go at fitting it myself if I had sufficient instructions on where to point it etc. I have good technical understanding but I just figured it was cheaper to pay someone to do it than invest in the signal detectors to point it in the right direction. Is it quite straightforward?

Have a read through the stickies for installation guides. Then ask about anything your not sure off. It's alot easier to help someone who has given themselves a basic understanding.

Can you point me to these guides?

Also, I don't think I am quite at the stage of installing yet as I still need to gather appropriate hardware for what I need. I was hoping for answers to the questions I posted in reply to southernsatellites' comments as I think this will equip me with what I need to be asking for at the satellite hardware shop.

thanks

First of all you need to decide which orbital slot you are going to get your channels from.

The Turkish channels are transmitted off Turksat 42E or Eutelsat W3A at 7E.

42E has the most channels, although many are transmitted on beams not available in the UK.

FlySat Türksat 2A/3A @ 42° East - the west beam channels are possible in the UK. The S1 beam is receivable - just about

FlySat Eutelsat W3A @ 7° East
