Default My christmas project!!!!!

Hi all!!!

I have attached a few photographs of the motorised dish system that I set up over Christmas! Once again I would just like to thank everyone on the forum for all the advice to enable me to get this far!!! This is by far the most useful website on the 'net!!!

My house is a self build. During construction I left a duct across to the garage and pulled four high quality satellite cables through from the living room to the garage. I didn't want the dishes and aerial plastered on the front of the house- this way they are discreetly located to the back of the garage. I used two of the cables for the sky+ dish (which can be seen in the first pic), one for a digital aerial and as I had a spare one I just had to get a motorised dish!!!

I have fixed the dish to two 300mm high, 1200mm diameter manhole rings. This used to be my platform for my oil tank- but I had to shift this as a lot of my neighbours were getting their heating oil stolen at the height of the oil prices!

The mast is a 60mm diameter aluminium section (which I filled with concrete to prevent it crushing!!) and I have braced it down to the manhole rings with 25mm diameter galvanised tubular section. This has made a very stable support structure. My dad is a builder so it was a bit like scrapheap challenge getting all the bits for the frame from his stock!!!

It is perhaps a bit agricultural but it does the job. I'm able to get the majority of the satellites on the arc that are available to me with this size of dish and at my latitude (dish 1.1m diameter high gain alsat dish). But I have found it is mostly on Thor!!!

Hope you have a good laugh at my efforts!!

Trev

Nice neat effort that - well done

I havent seen manhole rings used as a support before - another ingenious mounting solution.

Makes my dish mounted on a steel washing line pole look amateur.

good that you have used 60mm pole as the motor will have better grip on the pole over a smaller 2inch pole

the setup looks good does the tree in the picture affect any signals ?

Its been a long time since the 19E dish has blown over - Ive got it wedged in a bit tighter now

Next time it does go over it will probably scrap that dish as the lnb holder on that dish is badly cracked and I dont think my temporary repair with araldite will survive bouncing around the garden!

But theres a spare second hand dish lurking in the hedge ready to replace it

I want some manhole rings now to fasten it to!

Hi All!!!

Can you tell i'm a structural engineer????!!!! We brace EVERYTHING!!!!

In relation to your queries: -

Alsat logo painted on- but it doesn't look too bad once you get used to it- the dish is pointing away from the house so i don't have to look at it anyway!!!

I think i have been fortunate with the tree. The tree is virtually at the top of the arc- Thor is just to the left of the tree and my due south sat (5' west) is just to the right (I have to say this was more good fortune than judgement!!). Most of the useful sats are to the left anyway. I'm not sure if i am far enough back to get a signal over the tree or not.

Thanks for all the 'nice' comment guys!!- my wife has been impressed!!!

Wife impressed Trev!.
You have got it made.I am still getting grief because of my 88cm dish on the front of the house.

Edit.Would a few tyres filled with concrete do the job.A usefull way to get rid of some tyres?.
