Default getting rid of sky

can anyone advise me on a couple of things, firstly, im thinking of buying a freesat box, (ive heard you can get in xs of 70 channels) i currently have a sky+ box, but if i cancel my subs, then they turn it off yeah? so does the freesat box just hook up to my existing sky feed?(by the way theres 2 cables) can they stop u from doing this? me mate reckons they can cos its their dish and feed. secondly, can u use splitters on these boxes like u can with cable boxes? cos me normal coax is u/s, and ive just bought a small lcd telly for the kitchen so the wife can watch, and i thought ide be able to run a line from the box via a splitter to the telly in the kitchen, sorry to sound thick, but its all astrophysics to me!!

Hi,

1. If you cancel the subscription you loose the subscription chanels, you will still get FTA and FTV chanels on the box. I've heard that you can ask them to leave the recording feature on though.

2. You can use the dish and cable to get a feed to a freesat box. With sky the equipment is yours, unlike VM.

3. You can send the RF output of the box to a second TV and with a remote eye even change the chanel of a sly box. I'd check that any freesat box supports this though if you want this feature. Don't split the feed from the dish though.

I'll assume there is a quad lnb on the dish so if you run the cable you can have a PVR (sly+) box and 2 standard boxes anywhere in the house and all can watch differant chanels. Or 4 standard boxes, or 2 PVR's

Hope that clears it 4 u.

Rick

If you want to continue using the recording features of a sky+ box after you cancel your subscription then you have to pay a tenner a month.

Any recordings of encrypted channels will become blocked to you until you resubscribe.

You don't need a splitter there are 2 RF o/p on the back of the Sky receiver. 5 Mtrs of a cable run is no problem. You can get cable any length you want.

This is weard, i moved house 2007 then cancelled my sky after that. I never used the sky+ box again until the last few days when my freeview box died. There was a dish outside the house that i moved to and i decided to hust hook up the cable and see whether i can get freeview. Yes i was able to get freesat channels that sky offer, but was not able to watch all the stuff that was paid for which i recorded. Then came the surprise, i can still record anything while watching, I cant record 2 programmes.

How come the box is still capable to record?

Occasionally if a box is off when the cancel request goes through and stays disconnected for a few months it misses all the kill commands to switch off the record facilty.
