Default starting up requirements for cable box

i want to install a dream box or something simular but at the moment i only have a phoneline from telewest/virgin can i use a box through this line or do i need to have broadband or a small tv package with them to receive the signal, thanks

as long as you have a box on the wall and its an active line its fine
(for information perposes only )
cant be through a phoneline tho has to be a actual cable box

I have been doing some reading about tv stuff
I know i need to get stuff from the box but how do i find the point for j tag

It's on the board itself, look here: JTAG Points, those are the locations of the JTag points.

If you do not have an active coaxial line to your house, no you will not be able to get tv.

The phoneline that virgin will be providing you with, will likely be rented from whoever owns your telephone line to the house (Likely BT) and thus is not part of virgins network, hense the answer no, it won't work.

You can't use a phone line supplied by VM to connect cable boxes. You need an active cable feed (as mentioned above), you could sign up for the minimum package and then install a modded box alongside your subscribed one .
