Default Is the new Eurovox 7000 Nagra 3???

With all the talk of UPC/Ntl going Nagra 3 here in Ireland is any of the new boxes Nagra 3 compatible. I did ask before but cannot remember, is Nagra 3 a software update on a Nagra 2 box or is Nagra a Hardware thing??

Cheers

nagra3 is the encryption system i think, and more than likely they arent compatible, although i cant see VM changing their system anytime soon, they dont have the money in my opinion

Lots of people seem to be of the opinion that it will be too costly for VM to roll out Nagra 3 but equally there have been rumours that it was part of the deal to get Sky 1 etc back onto VM.

Wonder if they are using down South as a test bed to see how many people upgrade there viewing packages after the roll out to see if it cost effective in the long run to roll it out elsewhere?

I cant see that being part deal to bring sky1 back to VM, would it be worth the cost for the sake of a few channels (which have all repeats on anyway)

wouldnt everyone need new boxes tho? millions of VM customers....imagine the cost? then the money to upgrade the systems etc

suppose on the other side, would all the people getting free TV subscribe to the XL package? i very much doubt it as their current prices.

with the recession i just cant see it im afraid, it wont be long before Vm are laying off personel either to cut back on costs. If it were to happen it would be after the credit crunch is well and truly over, experts say that could be another 2 years away.

just my opinion, i maybe wrong tho

Not sure mate just like I said it was a rumour on here about it being part of the agreement so yeah prob a load of rubbish.

Sure down South it was just new cards being sent out, no need for new boxes so that would bring costs down a fair bit, think it was actually buying the Nagra 3 from whoever developed/supplies it that was the biggest cause.

Agree it would be a bad time to do it right now, would think some people are probably downgrading their packages due to money constraints

Its definately going to happen. They are losing too much money by all the scamsters with their hacked boxes.

They have a lot of plans including IPTV and n3. They are supposed to have them all running by 2009.

How can you say its definitely going to happen, they maybe losing money but doing an upgrade to N3 would cost them a lot also and as stated above I can't see them forking out a fortune the way things are with the banks etc at the moment.
