As you say you can use swap magic , but you have to insert 3 small pieces into your
ps2 for it to work,
Best bet is to use Free Mcboot (Google) and use the swap magic disc to mod your
memory card ,all you do then is patch your ps2 ISO (just takes a d/click of your mouse)
before burning,
you can then stick your swap magic disk in the drawer

The MC Boot doesn't work on Slim PS2s I don't think. The exploit was patched up in the slim after it had been used on the fat PS2s. You used to be able to boot the PS2 with a PSX game and the Memory Card in and it would load the Cogswap Loader (or whatever homebrew was on the Memory Card) but slim PS2s don't do it. Swap Magic discs or a modchip would be the best option .

The DMS4 EZI Pro is a solderless solution. It just clips onto the relevant place on the motherboard .

Free Mcboot does work on slimline PS2 I've done five of them ,
look for the latest version 1.8,

and if by some chance your unlucky and it doesnt work for you, you can still
use swap magic the way it was intended to be used

Yes use thats what to use

you have to make a SWAPMAGIC folder on your stick and copy the boot.elf to this folder and rename it SWAPMAGIC.ELF then just do it,
it will appear to freeze for on the swapmagic screen for a short time then it
will just kick in,

You can delete the hdloader if you like because it doesnt work on the slimlines

Everything is case sensitive and I always use the multi version install

is there any chance you could mess up your PS2? or just the memory card?

Also, could I do this whilst keeping my saves on the mem card? or do I have to format it?

No chance of messing up anything mate. You would be better formatting it although you don't have to.
