Default Current and New setup

Hi Folks I already have extensive knowledge about cable, boxes and patching for cable systems, which I have already prev setup. However Im trying to grasp elements of the sat side as I have inherited a sky disk on my house. Obviously this is from a prev owner. My plan is really to get a technomate 1500 or a dm500s, patch them and then connect them to this dish. I hear I can receive hotbird on using this idea, but ideally I would like to receive thor5 also (basically every sat that shows Prem footy). My first question is would the LNB on the skydish be good enough even if I got a bigger moterised dish? Secondly is the skydish enough to achieve what I want baring in mind it wont be moving?

Any pointer would be greatly receieved

I'm afraid the sky dish isn't big enough for good reception on 1w(Thor 3/5)

The lnb is only suitable for the sky dish.

If you want to enter the motorised world then forget the dish.
You need to start from scratch with all your equipment.

If you want to make use of the Sky dish you could hook it up to a freesat receiver or buy a second hand sky box to get the free stuff only.

oh ok, I think I will get a bigger dish, motor and LNB then and mount it in the same place. Im looking for something a bit more plesing to the eye than normal dishes. Is there any good deals on dishes, motors and LNBs as combos you know of?

ps with a motor dish I take it you can get to any satalite if it can "see" it?

Thanks again

There are mesh dishes and transparent dishes around 80-85cm.

Another option is to paint the dish to make it less obtrusive. Matt car spray paint is best.

Southern Satellite might have some deals on systems.

Southern Satellite - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

Provided that the signal from the satellite is strong enough then yes - the motor tracks the arc where the satellites are located.

Fracarro Pentas are a bit different to look at and would get 1W easily.

If I had a moterised dish, and pointed it southward would it be possible to get all the E and W sats? Am just thinking on the fly here as Canal is on west and some other channels I would like are on eastern based sats?
