confused if cable feed is still live

hey when i try to plug my cable feed into my box(unmodded by the way) and tune my tv into recieve the channels nothing shows up like there are no channels airing!!however when i plug the cable feed direct into the airel socket of my tv,i get channels 1-5 qvc,british eurosport and bbc paraliment when tuning(with only the cable feed in) also i can recieve some other cable channels be it that they are distorted..............so my cable must still be reciving signal right?

yes , have you done the card or is it just free tv you get

when u say yes u mean my cable is still reciving signal down the line????i havent touched the box at all just didnt use it for a while and then decided to again before i stopped using it all was going fine......then this??i just confused why my tv wont pick up channels through the box but will when i plug cable feed into it????but im definatly getting a signal huh?otherwise how could i get the few channels, say channel 3 when i dont have my roof top airel or anyother for that matter(only cable feed plugged in)....???

if you have glitched the card you will get bk this will help you do the mosc.
if you get bbc1 your line is on if you dont you will not be

Yes as already mentioned your feed is live.
Did you put the tele on the correct channel for your scart lead - AV1 AV2 ect

Also, did you use a screw on connector connected to the box? At usually the far side of the box. Its an easy mistake if your doing it with an F Connector and into the aerial line on the box

its a 'cft5100' general instrument came from ntl years ago not quite sure if thats the exact make.............its dosnt have a scart lead socket either.....im not quite sure wat pello ment.............im not trying to be smart or anything just a bit confused!! no i cant do av1 or 2 as it dosnt have a scart connection what could have happened it??i try and wire it for cable feed into box and the output from cable box named 'tv out' into my tv??

i screwed the connectors from my cable feed into the screw on connector labelled 'cable in' and visa a versa for the 'tv out'....whats an f connector?also there is another port on the back of my box..
