Question Forward path equaliser 8dB???

Hi guys! I was previously having problems with my original non-modded pace box and an engineer came out and replaced it. He also added a forward path equaliser 8dB to the cable feed. So I'm just wondering exactly what this forward path equaliser is and what purpose it serves? I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this. Thanks in advance!

You must have too good a signal, its an attenuator it cuts it by 8db, if you add a splitter or other boxes etc remove it, too strong a signal is as bad as not enough you get pixelation and freezing.
