Hi guys,
Looking for a bit of advice. I've been planning on getting a multi sat system for a long time and I've been reading up alot on it,never really got round to actually putting it up though. My house faces due south and has a clear view of the southern sky . I am primarily interested in 28e,19e,16e,13e, and 1w. I have a Dm500s already. The house is exposed on the south west side and acts as a wind tunnel for gales up the valley, its pretty wild out there. I have 2 options. a)Toroidal dish on back wall or b)Motorised 1m Gibertini Aluminium Dish As I have a row of low trees around 3 sides of the back of the garden I cant ground mount the dish ,it isnt feasible anyway. If I wall mount it and motorise it ,I think it would have to be a Diseqc motor as I reckon a 36v motor is too big to wall mount ? I also dont think a giant 36v motor would get the missus's approval The motorised option is cheaper but I'm afraid the winds will knacker it and I dont want to be up and down ladders realigning it. I'm not sure if I can get 28E to 1w on a toroidal either . Anyone have any opinions ? Want to get something but dont want to have to redo it in a few years time. |

I have had 28e, 23.5e, 19e, 13e, 5e, and 1w on my 1.1m Triax I could only get the strong transponders on 5e and 1w though. I have it motorised now. Also to get 19 and 16 on multi lnb you would need narrow feedhorns on the lnbs. Certianly motorised gives you more options, whereas multi lnb is alot more convinient when channel hopping.
Have a look at www.dishpointer.com that might help with the position of the dish, could you perhaps mount it on the north side of the house, over the gutter level so the roof breaks the wind coming from the south ?

I could put it on the East side which is sheltered but I would be limited to about 7W to 45E if I used 24 inch offset TK brackets. Might not get all the East sats as there are a few trees that could interfere. Motorised Diseqc option will cost me ~150 euro Motorised 36v motor ~ 280 euro Toroidal Dish with 3 slim lnbs,a quad lnb and 1 std lnb ,plus mount ~ 245 euro I'll fit the system myself ,I've done a good few sat installations in the past albeit all fixed position sats. Each system has pros and cons, just cant decide.
