Default Modems 2009 - Latest Info

Ok, here we are....

Much has been changing in the world of modems since the New Year and maybe before that. The role-out of the new 50mb service seems to be why things are indeed changing.

Some people have reported new TFTP server IP's and the inability to force config's anymore.

We know that the config file names are changing.

We know that it is VM's intention to role out the 50mb on new DOCSIS 3. New shiny black modems will be sent out for this purpose. So far DOCSIS 3 is secure and isn't hackable at present.

VM also intend to shift the higher end configs to DOCSIS 3. Leaving the bottom end on DOCSIS 1/2. (am I right here?)

Any modem from the Ambit 200 (with sigma) onwards is able to do DOCSIS 2. (again, correct me if i'm wrong)

I am in C+W, up north. I am still forcing any config I like on the pre-2009 TFTP server IP's.
When I use the new ones, I have force config enable and it connects but the modem only runs at the speed of the config.

When using Haxorware, I am able to bypass the FTFP server and have uploaded my config I have downloaded using the downloader within Haxorware. I have uploaded the biz config and my modem runs at 20mb down and 1mb up.

Can we post our findings to do with these changes here, including any new config filenames and accociated speed.

Thanks.

For what it's worth. I'm also in ex c&w area ,Dorset, and found I could not force any config's. I have since found that the Southampton TFTP of 10.137.103.8 and a new config of cmreg-ntlhm250-rts22.cm restored my service back to 20Mb.

By the way, this is using ambit 250 modem running Infinite.

I hope this is of some use to someone.

you can use the downloader in Haxorware to find out what configs are on your TFTP server. If it downloads, its there, if it doesnt, it isnt.

if it downloads, you can auto serv this config yourself.

So far, in C+W i have downloaded these configs from my pre2009 TFTP server.....

cmbus-pkg3-nat-any.cm
cmreg-ntlhm100-rts22.cm
cmreg-ntlhm100-rts01.cm
cmreg-ntlhm120-rts22.cm
cmreg-ntlhm120-rts01.cm
cmreg-ntlhm250-rts22.cm
cmreg-ntlhm250-rts01.cm
cmreg-mota4100-rts22.cm
cmreg-mota4100-rts01.cm

Its interesting that the mota ones are there as we dont use moto's in C+W... perhaps this is because there making the configs national ones... ie, when you move house from TW to C+W you can take your SB with you???
The -rts98.cm and -bas.cm configs are also there on my TFTP for each modem model but were not interested in those i guess!.... wonder why there is a need for two configs with the same speed?

This is not new news but here we have a synopsis of the configs..... (prev posted by bad ad84)

class-cm-rts01.cm - 20MB down 768k up
class-cm-rts22.cm - 20MB down 768k up
class-cm-rts98.cm - 2MB down 256k up
class-cm-bas.cm - 10MB down 512k up

so it seems. also, the national biz config. some people are having problems with the national biz one.

i dont think you need to force the config, you can use haxorware to download the config.cm file from the tftp and serv it yourself!
