Default 50mb possible on my Motorola SB5100?

I've got a Motorola SB5100 that's been successfully running 20mb for quite some time now with the Sigma firmware. I recently got a friend to sniff MACs in his area as before but no 50 meg connections showed up, even though 50mb is now readily available in this area.

I have limited knowledge as to how this system works so can my modem be used as a 50 meg connection or is this just impossible?

Not possible yet mate. And you wont find a 50meg mac they run on a different system and only way to get a 50meg mac is physically by getting it from the modem but you clone that 50meg mac and virmin will see it and just blacklist both modems and cancel the account that mac is on because they will know the owner of that 50meg modem has physically given the mac.

no, max speed in theory is 38mb, in reality its around 32, plus would need to support channel bonding (aka docsis 3).

Thanks guys, good to know. I'm happy with the 20mb speed I get now, but you know what it's like when you get used to it you just want more!

Is there any way then to safely boost the speed of this modem to it's maximum, or is there a modem available that can do higher speeds and would work in my area (W.Mids).

I already get 20mb which gives the speeds you mention, plus I make the most of it by having Megaupload, ********** and *********s accounts which give me unlimited downloads at full speed (a full game/DVD in just over half an hour). It beats using torrents as they take too long to build speed and choke once the speed gets above 500kb/s.

It's now just a case that my PC is on 24/7 and I've burned PC's out before running them for long periods. Double the connection speed and halve the amount of time the PC is on.
