Default Factory Reset On Mac

Hi a friend has just talked me into having a look at her Mac but i hav'nt the slightest idea how these things operate.

Anyway, she wants it formatted or a full factory reset(which is prefered) but the problem is, she aint got the disc. Kids wrecked it.

Is there a way to format or factory reset without the disc? I know with the PC this can be done.

Thanks for any help

Its an Apple 20in iMac 2.4Ghz

dose that mac have time machine this i will be there only if it running leopard. if there is would not know how to go about restoring the file seen as you have no DVD to boot from. the is always a chance you could DL one from torrents. but i would not recommend it or ebay that is where i bought 10.2 CDs from and there perfect they were from i mac but work on powermac and i only paid £16 for it.
