Default Freesat channels?

Hi, if I purchase a freesat HD, can it receive the same FTA channels as my sky box. I have the original (astra 60cm?) dish that sky set up. Not too sure about the actual size of the dish, but I do know its one of the smaller sky dishes. And before you have a go at me and tell me you cant hack sky-I am not asking that. I am asking whether the freesat would get the same FTA channels as sky

Oh and if I bought myself a bigger dish and hooked that up to the freesat, would I be able to see more Free to view channels?

Yes, you would get exactly the same FTA channels as a Sky box can get.

A larger dish would be of no benefit at all, if the one you have works fine all the time.

( Unless the dish was motorised, to pick up other satellites)

So your saying if I bought a motorised dish, I could pick up extra FTA channels? TBH, my dad watches sky only for the indian/pakistani channels and that is all that is needed really. In this case, would it be better to upgrade to a motorised dish/stay with the same dish/stick with Sky?

Yes, theres absoloutely thousands of other channels available, many of them FTA.

As for Pakistani/Asian channels, not something I know much about.

Check here on flysat

FlySat FTA TV Channels

click on the countries you are interested in.

Whether you cancel Sky or not, depends if you subscribe, and if you need to have Sky subscription channels, and if you can find alternative channels from other satellites for free.

I cancelled Sky a few years back, and get most of what I watch from FTA satellite channels from other satellites, plus a foreign subs card.
( and I have Virgin)

Thanks for that info. Just exactly what do you mean by a foreign subs card? As in do you pay a foreign company or something?

Some cards are widely available on the net via third parties, much the same way that Sky cards are available abroad.

I have DigitalB from 16E, might get a Tring card next year. But there are loads of others, Marconi Digital sells a few.

Some of the Asian channels I believe have a number that you can call in the UK to get a card, though they're probably cheaper through Sky as part of a package.
