Default Usals

Hi,

Is USALS just a feature of the receiver or does it need a compatible motor? I've got a Vantage x221TS CI receiver and a 1224 motor, and I'm just about to buy a V-box to marry them up but V-boxes are diseqc 1.2 and don't say anything about USALS. What's the score?

Also, what is the difference between a V-box II and a V-box III?

USALS requires a receiver and motor to be compatible.

The 36v 1224 and Vbox uses DiSEqC 1.2 commands so you need to switch to 1.2 on the receiver.

You can't use USALS with a 1224.

Ok, thanks. So what is the set up procedure? I'm at 0.5W, 38N.

Also what was the difference between V-box II and V-box III?

The setup procedure for a 1224 runs along the same principle as the Diseqc H-H motors. Have a read of the Sticky guides.

But to add.

1. get pole vertical
2. set the inclination angle of the motor, i.e the amount it tilts up from horizontal to (90-latitude) , which in your case 52 degrees.

3. If you can pick up Thor, set the motor to about zero.

4. Set the declination so that the dish is where is would be to pick up Thor.

5. Swivel the whole lot round the pole, and fiddle with the declination if you have to to get the best signal from Thor.

If you cant get thor (Check lyngsat for footprints), use whichever sat is closest, but remember to alter the motor position accoringly.

Eg for 5W, you need to motor round to about 4.5W

Declination is adjusted on the top of the motor, plates slides back and forrth, when nut adjusted.

I don't know the difference between those V-boxes, I used my cordless drill battery to move the 1224 I had

.B Prime focus dish is easier to setup than offset, as you can use an angle gauge to set the declination, by placing the gauge on the back of the dish and measure its elevation directly.

With a 0.3° difference between your longitude and Thor, your almost dead on (depends where you are of course for reception of thor). A more noticeable difference and you would have to rely on the acuracy of the scale on the mount. Come back usals

OK, your'e near Torrevieja, south east Espaņa, So you should easily get Thor 5 at 0.8W, example transponder is 11785H, which has a FTA channel (1 Music channel)
Setting the motor to about zero is close enough, 0.3 degees won't stop you tracking the arc.

Torrevieja, no. I wouldn't even wish for my worst enemy to live there (if I had one). I'm a bit further north. Alicante (38.5N). Anyway thanks for the info.

Ok, here's the bit I don't understand: How does Diseqc 1.2 know where the satellite is? Do I have to put in the co-ords of each satellite... or do I have to keep nudging the dish across the arc until it finds a satellite for the receiver to store.
