It sounds like a faulty card reader, you can buy and replace.

I have a faulty card reader on my Pace 4000. Could I remove a working reader from another box I have for spares (Scientific Atlanta 4200) and fit it into this box?
Thanks. |

I have 4 X 4001's....3 can read various cards except 2 roms i know to be dead..resulting in mute_err in eng menu. 1 box reads com_err on various cards i was thinking that had a faulty card reader... process of elimination took me ages to get started..while im at it, anyone what the upper card slot on the 4001n is for? ..loyalty points

Mute err can be can be caused by faulty surface mount caps, but most commonly the card reader has dropped a pin, so one of the pins isnt making proper contact with the chip.
You can take the reader apart and pull the pins up the eye of a needle. |
