I use Vista now and the Infinity USB works as long as you use the latest software, the old 2.61 is used for XP and doesn't work under Vista I don't think.

![]() Personally i use a violet pheonix programmer, uses USB for power and COM1 for data transfer. May look to get a USB pheonix one, when i hear better results from the VCP software provided with the programmer. Edit: Because my main PC has no com port, all my programming is done on an older dual cpu amd server, which still has com ports!

another thing to note is vista doesn't support rs232 ports, which can be a pain in the ass if you need to use your pc for direct box communications or for pnp simms to obtain bks and the like. This is one of the main reasons I switched back to xp from vista. Also, I found alot of bugs get cropping up with mrom and xncs, as well as with alot of games.
A final thing to note is that most people who like to program cards use an older version of the software that comes with the infinity usb unlimited as the newer software version has been a bit troublesome, the older versions don't work very well in vista. When you use programs such as nagraedit etc. make sure you set them to run in compatability mode and then when you open them, right click and select "run as administrator". I personally prefer xp to ensure smooth running of my programs, I didn't think vista was as bad as vista haters out there say it is and it probably is the way forward, but, for the moment I have gone back to xp and I will be sticking with it for awhile yet. good luck! |

As for what you mentioned regarding XP, i do all programming under xp only because the pc i use to program with wont support vista. I have purchased an rs232 pci card for my vista pc, with your news it doesnt support it, can you show me the infomation saying that it doesnt. Because if it doesnt, ive wasted cash and need to get rid of the card asap.

Vista definately does support rs232 ports because I have one on my laptop runnung Vista ultimate with no problems what so ever.
I have also used all the available software such as nagra, xncs and mrom without any problems so far. The only problem I have found is that Win Explorer won't work with vista. I tried several times and many different things but would'nt work at all. I believe this is because script control from Microsoft website only supports OS upto XP. So all I did to solve this problem was create a partition on my hard drive and install xp just for using certain software that isn't yet vista compatible. Regards

THANKS! You have clarified a dark area for me. Several friends have used vista with serial ports, so i did wonder on the validity of the claim. ~Hax are on hold till new h/w arrives XD~

Win Explorer works ok with Vista. Just set the prog to run in win 98/ME compatibility mode.
