Default PC Problem

Hi

I switced on my monitor and it works but when I swtich on my tower, I don't get a response from it. It's like it is dead. I have even changed the fuse in the plug but to no avail. Does anybody know what I should do.

Thanks

test the psu first maybe remove the all the wires that lead from PSU. The 20 or 24 pin connecter from the board look towards the middle find the green and black wires next to each other put a paper clip in the two pins, plug in something like a case fan in the the 4 pin molex plug then power up psu if fan turns thats one off the list from there its tougher without other bits to replace

Agree with Danielle but just to add, while your checking the psu, check all the connections are seated properly and none of the cables are damaged, its possible its a short somewhere. Also could be as simple as the power button on the case, does this feel right when pressed ? With the cover of the tower off try the power, does the cpu fan kick on for a split second?

Best hope it aint a bestec Power Supply in an emachine...... If thats gone its probably took the motherboard with it. The joys of crappy cheap OEM power supplies.

It does look as though its a PSU issue though.

PSU is the power supply in which you plug your mains wall plug into the back of the PC. You can pick up a cheap OEM PSU locally for around 10-15£ for abouta 500-600 watt.

Any issues give us a shout

If you've tried all the things suggested be everyone and nothing worked then I would agree you need a new PSU. They aren't difficult to fit, just make sure you get the right type for your PC, if you are unsure take out the old one and take it with you so the supplier can give you a compatiable replacment.

I took the old PSU out. I took it to a computer shop and the guy there showed me one the exact size but the fan was much bigger and on the top. He said to me that it will be fine but I was thinking that it wouldn't cos the top part of the tower will block the fan. The fan on my PSU was smaller and it could be seen from the back and therefore the air would come out. Did I make the right choice? Or should I buy it. Thanks

Hi the large fan when fitted in your case will face down inside the case to draw heat out from the inside some power supplies are like this and some have a small one at the back aswell .
