First of all thanks for all the info. Yes I know I should have done my homework on my seller before I bought the box, but what can I say, I made the mistake of trusting them........
I have a eurovox EX5100PVR delivered yesterday and raring to go. When it wouldn't find any stations I contacted the seller for help and got a condesending reply which would not have helped anyway as they obviously didn't know the 5100 either.......... In the meantime I'd found you lot of luvverly peeps. I have tuned in the Box and have lots and lots of channels, success! NOT..... they are all 'scrambled'. There are no free to view channels at all (let alone the ones that I may have got by accident and definately wouldn't have watched.......... honest) Having got this far can someone (the more the merrier) check that I am about to do the right things? 1. Buy a rs232 null modem cable (on it's way already). 2. Download a new O/S type thingie to flash the 5100. The instructions are (hopefully) here and I have read them and will again until I understand them. My two problems are - 1 - Should I be getting free to air channels? If I should could this be a faulty box? 2 - The instructions here are sort of mixed between the 5100 and the 5000 do they use the same flash thingie? My neighbour and I are working together on this and will definately be buying his box from one of the sellers on these boards - searches for Eurovox only give a very limited number of sellers....... Thanks again for all the info so far and in advance for the answers to my quandry. Jon |

Read my guide here Ronsters Guide To Flashing Box For Newbies it could do with updating now for all the new models of eurovox that are out but its still the same procedure for the 5100.
You should be at least getting the FTA channels but the box might be on the wrong symbol rate for your area. Flash it with the lasest 5100 firmware then scan,if your not sure of your symbol rate check here List of Net Id's for Cable TV 6952 or 6887 has your pc got a dedicated rs232 port? if not you will also need a usb-seriel adapter. |

Sorry, didn't introduce myself.
Hi, I'm Jon from Cardiff, V subscriber ex Nthell - and we thought it would get better........... Trying to get the box working so we can have TV in two rooms - guess what idiot thought we'd never need that daft TV aerial? Stuck with Virgin for broadband - all grandkids in USA...... and they do a pretty good deal on international phone calls that works with mobiles. Hope that helps....... Jon PS - I know my way around a computer but these boxes are a new world.... |

still the same procedure for the 5100.
Read the post, and thankyou again - just checking about the 5100...... caution is my middle name. you should be at least getting the FTA channels but the box might be on the wrong symbol rate for your area. Checked the rate for ntl and scanned (used 6887 Cardiff) That's how I got the chanels but all 'scrambled'. That's what worries me a bit all the channels are 'scrambled' even the free to air ones. Just did a 'panic' 'oh Blurgerip!' check and I do have a dedicated rs232 port - thanks I never even thought to check. I'll wait impatiently for the rs232 to get here and 'flash' the 5100. Thanks for the advice and help, Jon |

Hi again and thanks for your help - it will be a little longer before I get my box up and running.
As the first info from the seller didn't make sense I wrote back and asked for further help early this morning - especially as all channels were scrambled. I received the following in answer after they closed - Thank you for your enquiry. You have reached the Support Department. We will aim to resolve your enquiry quickly and efficiently. Please read the following carefully: You have purchased a FREE TO AIR receiver, it does not contain any "hidden menus" any "secret keys" or any codes that would allow you to receive subscription based channels without a subscription. These receivers are preloaded with FREE TO AIR software which enables you to receive common Freeview (Unencrypted) channels on your network. Any channels which require a subscription or are encrypted will appear as “SCRAMBLED” or “UNAVAILABLE”. You will need to contact your service provider and obtain a Conditional Access Module for your device if you want to obtain access to these channels. Updates, modifications and codes are part of illegally hacked software. We cannot provide assistance relating to these. Furthermore, we cannot help you or assist you in obtaining services illegally. Please use your receiver legally. Please carefully read the Cable & Satellite FAQ at : Link removed: Any issues relating to services or channels must be addressed by your service provider. This includes issues where correct signal is not being obtained or where there is further information needed relating to symbol rates and frequencies. Due to the nature of the product you have purchased, we cannot help you diagnose your equipment as it depends on the specific service provider you are connecting to. You will need to assess if the item you have purchased is faulty yourself. If you are sure that your item has a technical fault, and the problem is not caused due to the following; 1. Service provider signal level 2. Incorrect settings (Symbol Rate/Frequency) 3. Incompatible accessories Please email our RMA department directly at: (I can't post links): who will advise you on how to return your item. Our engineers will test the returned item for faults and issue a replacement or repair your device if necessary. If our tests show that your item is not faulty, you will be charged a testing and return postage fee for the item to be shipped back to you. Please note: We are unable to test your equipment if it has been illegally modified and it will be returned to you at your cost with an additional handling fee of £20. All such instances are logged. Now having read that twaddle I've contacted their RMA dept for returns details and quoted Distance Selling Regulations to them. That is 7 days to cancel the contract from receipt of goods, without giving a reason. I paid by Paypal so I will only lose the return shipping. So this box will go back and I'll then get another one from a more helpful seller who doesn't threaten to keep logs of customers who do stuff to boxes. Just in case there is someone from the seller reading this, I do have your 'Tech Dept's' email that was wrong on simple facts about the 5100 - that even I who hadn't seen one till yesterday knew. Thanks again for your help and I will be back once this twaddle brained seller is sorted - and believe me they will be. Jon |

You should definetly be getting FTA channels, flashing it with the latest firmware wouldnt correct this
I think your going down the correct route returning it as you shouldnt have these problems with a brand new box and according to his email you will validate the warrenty if you flash it WTF! Over the past 18 months alot of people have bought a few cartons of eurovoxes and jumped on the "supplier" bandwagon with absolutley no after sales support...probably because they havnt a clue about these boxes they just want to make a quick profit and as the profit margins are so small on these boxes it only takes a couple of returns to destroy their profit! If you are sucessfull with getting a refund mate i'd recommend any future purchases from Lincsat on this forum. Ive never used him myself as ive had the same reliable supplier for over 3 years but from other peeps feedback his sevice is A1 PS if your supplier kicks up a fuss dont forget to add his name here Name and shame Ronster |

It gets even weirder.......
I have just plugged the TV into the Cable (or the other way around) and lo and behold 15 channels about 9 of them watchable. On the Eurovox box there were 103 channels but ALL were 'scrambled'. If anyone is reading this with the same sort of problem REMEMBER that you have 7 days to reject goods bought from a distance and delivered without giving a reason. Although Paypal does refund in full you have to pay the cost of returning them. A reputable seller will refund the cost of return postage when goods are faulty. Paypal is a bit of a gamble though if you use it your 12 month guarantee for goods over £100 bought by credit cards decreases to the 45 day Paypal claim deadline. We used to run an online business before herself's health and mine deteriorated and we sort of know the DSRs ........... Thanks again for your help and support, Jon |
