if all you want is BBC HD, ITV HD, Chan4 HD and maybe Five HD, then go Freesat, they'll all be on there eventually. Otherwise, look at other satellite with a motorised setup, there are a few FTA HD channels out there.

I'm considering buying some sort of HD receiver and am wondering if it's worth paying the extra cash given the limited HD availability. Anything new here? ie. anything worth watching?
Also I've read (I think) you can't split feed from a dish to supply two receivers. I recently added a freesat box to my Sky dish and got a wiring kit for same which included usual bits and pieces but also had a 2-way splitter(STV202, 5-2450MHz) for the purpose of splitting one feed to two receivers. Will it work or no?

Thanks.

No.
You need a Quad lnb,and extra cabling or replace/add to the existing cabling with twin(shotgun) cable, for extra receivers.
BBC HD broadcasts part time, with some great live broadcasts, and usual programming from the Beeb.
ITV HD,again limited programmes, and selected live events.
Luxe Tv,for the vast majority of people,is just an occasional watch.
Ch4 HD,broadcasts full time, with simulated broadcast of its SD version.

ITV HD is available on many receivers with a bit of tinkering, and also on Sky HD if the box has the latest epg. However its only available through "Add Channels / Other channels"

Thanks guys. I have a quad lnb but I'll have to upgrade to octo shortly. I've got some extra channels with the ''Add channels'' and some of them are so bad/corny they're actually funny. Ultimately I hope to get a motorised set up. The dish is pointing at 28E and is more or less at 90% to wall on house (wall is facing east). I'm guessing this will be a problem?

Not necessarily, though at that exact position yes, you would only get a few eastern satellites.

But if you could raise the dish above the roof line, or put it round the corner, you should fair better.
