I am about to splash out on a good receiver (if someone has suggestions that would be good also) but my query is will I be able to pick up channel 4 & 5 without buying a card and is it possible to pick up Discovery channel & Nat Geographic with a Sky sub.
Thanks very much |

Firstly you can get channel 4 & 5 on any receiver. Yes you can get Discovery and National Geographic on a Sky sub. If you go down the sky route then they will supply the equipment, subsidised by them.
If you want to have Sky and also multi satellites, then there are various posts that explaining what to do and what you need, but it doesn't sound like this is what you want to do from your question.

You wont get NatGEO discovery from 28.2e without a sky sub
if you ever get reception from multiple satellites Nat Geo is free from 12.5W Discovery is currently on many packages that are Hacked but these are closing so you'll need a sub in the long term Channel 4/5 are viewable on asny box so long as it's a digital box

Thanks very much for the info....
So to get this correct - Channel 4 & 5 from any receiver without buying a card No Discovery without hacking so I'll forget that Nat Geographic possible from 12.5W - perhaps you could explain a little more about receiving Nat Geographic |

There are other satellites across the Sky at various locations such as Astra 1 at 19.2e Hotbird 13e all broadcasting mainly foriegn channels to other countrys Atlantic Bird 1 at 12.5west has Free National Geographic(or it did 3 days ago) You'd need another dish for this and possibly another Box

Thanks for the info. Now only need to purchase a decent receiver. I know their are loads to choose from but any opions on the Technomate 6900.
Now that you have helped about picking up certain channels I can go shopping next week. Just wanted to check in case someone said about such and such receiver and that if I had got this instead it would have been easier to pick up such and such channel. |
