If I buy a "never been plugged in" Ambit 250/255, would the "p" option be intact on it? I don't want to be messing around with the Console Unlocker on modems without it because I have already bricked two.

The reason I am asking is because there are alot of new modems being sold on eBay but I always thought that these wouldn't work unless the CC send a hit to them (similar to that of a set top box)?

new modems will work fine, they dont need anything doing to them by the cc.

and unlikely, new modems probably had new fw installed at factory while they were being made.

Ahh so how would I go about modding these then? Does that mean Console Unlocker and SoftJtag is the only way forward

yeah, console unlocker. i cant understand how you've bricked modems with the unlocker thou. if it dont open up in softjtag then its not got anywhere near. when it opens it up, you just flash the new bootloader and hit p quick on next boot.

i think he's been getting errors half way through jtag writing the bootloader...

Yes just as mowax said but I didn't realise I could close the connection in Hyper Terminal to stop this happening. I read a proper tutorial and it explains how NOT to brick the modem if SoftJtag crashes
