Default How to Improve your chance of finding a 20Mb Mac

Using DHCPsniffer:

Once you've saved the mac's you've just sniffed, don't close the app.

Instead, open up the saved txt with the macs in.
Copy n paste the first mac into the bar in DHCPsniffer and click discover again.
Do the same with the second mac then the third and so on etc.

Normally I get around 30 macs with only 1 or 2 10Mb/20Mb

Doing the above, I got around 120 macs, most of which were 2Mb but I also got 19 10Mb macs and 8 20Mb macs. (EDIT: 21/02/09, found 39 20Mb Macs)

I know some have trouble getting 20Mb mac's, so using the above method should greatly increase their chances and only takes a couple of minutes extra.

Hope this helps a few people out.

Regards,

lee-ds

You can also change a couple of numbers in the mac (the two before the end)

eg. if your mac is XX:XX:XX:XX:A6:XX then try XX:XX:XX:XX:A7:XX and so on

That always works for me

Does that still work, I though they closed that loophole a while back - I still have a stockpile of MAC's from doing that in 2007

Not only those,

Try changing: XX:XX:AA:AA:AA:AA (any of the A's, one by one, before copy n pasting the next Mac)

That's how I got 39 20Mb macs.

(I'm ex c&w btw)

Still works in my area (ex-c&w), try sniffing, then do as per 1st post

you can then do it again with all the new macs you sniff. (I've managed 39 20 Mb macs so far)

Just tried it again in Pure and it's not working, bruteforce returns every MAC in the range with IP addresses but no Configs. Passive scans return valid MAC's with configs and Gateway IP's

sounds like you are more the exception than the rule. every pure area i know of it works.

but each cmts is configured slightly differently, so its not supprising.

How long approximately should I leave DHCP sniffer running for when using Brute Force option?
Will it discover all online modems within seconds or does it take a few minutes to find them?
Just a bit wary that VM know its scanning

I think you gotta leave it running for a day or two to come up with some good macs with config files.
