Default pause button

hi,
Ive got a panasonic dvd recorder
prob about 2 years old now,
but suddenly I find the pause button on the remote
has stopped working.
I am one for recording bits and pieces of TV so I use
the pause button a lot
I always thought that tvs, dvd players etc
had all the buttons on the machine as well as the remotes
but looking at this panasonic I cant see a pause button anywhere

so I can t even get the pause option from the box itself

wot are my options ? do you think theres any chance
with this 5 in 1 remotes on sale in the shops ?
I saw one last week at £2 but that was only for TV

I have a suspicion that if I sent to panasonic for a new remote
it would cost an arm and a leg !
thanks for any comment

My suggestion depends on how competent you feel about trying to repair the remote. If you don't feel up to it then don't do it, but if you think you are willing to have a go then you take the back off the remote. It's possibly held on with small screws and/ or little plastic clips down along either side. The screws may be under the battery cover. The panel inside will then be screwed or clipped to the front including the rubber button mat. Unclip the panel and the buttons may or may not come away with the panel. Either way you can clean the panel and the button mat(baby wipes are ideal and they have so many other uses too). If that doesn't work then if you can get some silver paint and put a little on the faulty button that will cure the problem.
To repeat if you don't feel up to it then don't take the remote apart

As for universal remotes. I would have thought if it works the DVD recorder at all then it will have the pause button on it. Personally i would spend a little more on a good universal remote but then the sky is the limit on some uni remotes.

will do panasonic dvd recorders ?

There certainly are universal remotes that will work a Panasonic DVD. The ones I have used before are Logitech and the Philips Pronto Neither of which are particularly cheap so it depends on your budget. Would think some of the simpler Philips universal remotes would work as well. You may be able to get a non original replacement from a company like Philex, Though I havn't used them for quite some time. They site is under philex.com.
oneforall is another universal remote company which is another good option again under .com and you may be able to find out if they cover your DVD on their websites.

HAD A go, but cant even find any screws,
the damn thing must be welded together !

Maybe its time to go for a new dvd recorder
one with a big hard drive ?

or maybe a sky box with a big hard drive ?
In the end, do we really need discs anymore ?

except for perhaps sharing stuff

Once or twice I have found remote cases glued together but usually on cheaper equipment, never found that on Panasonic equipment. Screw may be under the battery cover.

Failing getting it apart it is a good excuse to upgrade to something new.
