Hi all, my problem is that I have a hacked motorola sb5101e which I bought through a friend of a friend etc. I live in Scotland and using VM. It worked perfectly for 14 months until I switched it on Sunday morning. The online light is blinking all other lights are solid. I have been using my iPhone 3g for the Internet for clues as to how to solve this. It I'm at my wits end. I can't find anyone through all the people I know to give me a replacement and the guy I got this one from has dissapeared. If anyone can do anything I help me or spare any of your time just replying I'm thanking you very much in advance.
Thanks !!!! Ray. |

Hi I'm 99% positive it was bought at the time tw was gone I got it December 2007 and it was new. My bandwith recently doubled all by itself approx 2-3 weeks ago so I assume I was awarded an upgrade to the 20 mb for some reason which I can't explain I was really happy with the new speeds !

You could try using 250 configurator ( if running infinite ) and guessing a mac by changing a couple of digits to the existing MAC - make sure you untick the Force Config box before writing to the modem - this alone may give you a 2Mb connection - then sniff somemore with DHCPsniffer
Else you need to get access on a mates VM connection and run DHCPsniffer to locate a working MAC. |

dhcp sniffer will only give macs in his area, as hes on ex TW.
ex TW is only one that wont connect, ntl and c&w give the reg page. |

gazzaman thanks for the advice. Although I don't know how to do any of this I have learned a bit and I once tried this before and used a sniffer and saves loads of macs into notepad do you think I could use any of these ?
Can I just ask a question also, a config file, is this an actual file that you or I download and install into the actual modem or is this file retrieved by the use of someones mac running that config file. This is something I just never understood. I'll have to get use of a friends pc and get the 250 configurator and give that a try. Cheers for all your help guys ! |

config file is given to the modem based on its mac address.
you dont do anything with them (usually) |

Thank you for clearing that up with the confit file.
Can I just ask something else please. I am going to a friends ahortly this evening to put a couple of things on disc that I need. Am I correct in saying that that all I need is the 250 configurator and to sniff some macs out at his house then come home and try and put the new mac ontoy modem ? My friend is a 5 minute walk from where I live. I am usually quick at picking things up but because I'm so desperate to get back online for important reasons I seem to be struggling with this subject so if it wasn't for you guys I'd be up ****creek without a paddle so to speak ! Thanks again ! |
