Default Problem when disconnecting RS232

I seem to be having a strange problem. Last night I used the config tool to put a new mac and config file on my modem after I did this the mac would work until I tool the RS232 cable out of the modem and then I would lose my internet connection. I am unsure why its doing this.

You sure you got the rx/tx pins the right way round? I find that the bottom GND (pin closest to the back of the modem) works best.

Its all connected right. It write the mac and config file to the modem and when I get a working mac and config I get an internet connection but when I disconnect the RS232 lead this is where I am having problems as the internet connection disconnects but connects again when i put the RS232 cable back on.

I now seem to be having the opposite problem. Modem connects to net but if I plug the rs232 in it disconnects. Strange. Although I prefer this rather than having to leave the rs232 in all the time.
