Default right guys im back with a few more problems so need some more help please

i got my HTPC with VMC running smooth for a while with no problems but now after a month or so have run into some more and am hoping you guys will help me out again

right
i have 3 main problems concerns and i am using TV pack FYI

1st: i have a problem with a few channels which when selected cause VMC to tell me the channels is encrypted and cannot be viewed thus not allowing me to watch any encrypted channel until i either remove and re-insert my fun into my floppy or reboot my machine

2nd: we all know the crap concerning the epg with TV Pack and having to use a anologue card to get the downloaded 14 day epg (this is no prob to me as i have 1 which i used and all was working fine) but now after a month or so of running perfect i cannot get any epg info until i switch to the channel and leave it on that channel thus rendering schedualed recordings usless as the epg has no info displayed

3rd: this is no major prob and just want your opinions on it which i think i know what your answer will be. on a few channels like discovery, living and challange the picture keeps breaking up and pixallating, would the use of a booster sort this if so which booster is best and where is the best place to place it.
my setup has 3 splits from the wall box which is in the front bedroom: 1 that goes from the TW wall box to the other bedroom conected to a KV box the other 2 go downstairs 1 to my broadband box and the other to my floppy in my HTPC

any help/advice appreciated guys

im thinking of doing a clean vista install at some point using a vista ultimate lite install that does not have the aero theme or the sidebar in the install then re-installing tv pack etc would you reccomend this at all?

1st - Had that EXACT same problem myself, I can probably give you a list of the 17 channels that did it if you want! Following some advice from another member, I reflashed my CAMs from Joker 0.79 to Joker 0.80 and that fixed it. I've still got 6 or so channels that have audio but no video but other channels still work with no rebooting needed. I'll have the 0.80 firmware at home somewhere if you want it - reply and I'll post it somewhere and pop the link here.

2nd - sounds like your not getting the EPG at all anymore, only the in-stream one. Simple things first, are you still connected to the internet? Assuming you are, I'd suggest setting up TV signal again to get this sorted (make sure your analogue card is installed and enabled). It'll take some time to resort the channels, but at least you know it'll work.

3rd - if possible, could you temporarily plug in the HTPC further up the chain, maybe after the first split? If the stuttering continues then you know the problem is elsewhere before you start spending money on boosters.

Hopefully someone'll come up with better answers for 2 and 3, but the answer to 1 will definitely work as that's the exact problem I struggled with for about 3 months!

thanks stu

i would love to re-flash my cam but have no hardware to do it i just have the infinity usb to flash my fun

concerning the epg i did actually try re-setting up my tv signal and still had some problems
im now in the process of doing a fresh vista install but after installing a lite version i had found that the media center had been removed so ill be re-doing that tomorrow

hopefully once a fresh install is done and everything is set up in order i can start eliminating any problems as they are encountered

i just hope this first problem has a fix with the 0.79 fw because although not a major issue one of the channels is one the mrs likes to watch

This is the list of channels I had crashing VMC in the way you described with Joker 0.79:
  • Bravo
  • Bravo +1
  • Dave
  • EuroNews
  • Film4
  • Film4 +1
  • Fiver
  • ITV4
  • Nick Jnr 2
  • Rangers TV
  • Sky Premier +1
  • Sky Sports Xtra
  • Sky 2
  • Sky 3
  • Sony Ent TV Asia
  • Speed Auction TV
  • UKTV Gardens
If it helps, I'm quite happy to try flashing your CAMs to 0.80 for you. I know it'll mean you're without them for a few days but postage is cheaper than buying a CAS3! Anyway, drop me a PM if you want to and I'll give you my address.

Cheers.

Don't want to go on, and on, but check your firewire connection, firewire drivers and FDTV firmware.

That's one of the Windows auto-updates that is causing that. If you do a fresh install of Vista (and SP1) then you can install TV Pack. If you let Windows do it's updates first, then try to install TV Pack, it will come up with that message.

That's the problem I've got on my main gaming PC - didn't install TV Pack but thought I'd be OK to do it later so long as I hadn't opened VMC. Tried to install it recently (so I could stream and play the .wtv files on it) and it won't let me. Problem is, don't know which Windows Update caused it, so can't even uninstall the problem one to get it on.

thats ridiculous because it is a fresh install as well but windows may have updated somehow automatically

i think before i try a fresh install again i will use the restore console and see if i can roll it back to just after the install and install sp1 again and go from there if no joy will have to do re-install AGAIN lol

Just check what updates you have, first. I downloaded and installed one of the recent updates (not TV Pack) only to be told that it "didn't apply", only to realise that it was already installed...

I'd recommend Acronis True Image for imaging your PC as you go along - do a fresh install, take and image, do drivers, take and image, do windows update, take an imge, etc etc.

If had it before where I've changed one tiny thing and I get stutter or something and can't sort it without going back to an earlier image.
