MCE Picks up what STB you have during setup - it has a database of codes, you press a few buttnos on the STB remoe, and if it recognises it from the STB you're in business.

If it doesn't you can select your STB from a list, and if that's no good, I think you can teach it the right commands.

Not sure if the Starview is in the database, though.
Think thats the one i ordered alright. HTPC built but ordered Vista HP and still waiting on it

Can I ask another question? So, i use the MS remote to control the cable box. This then is input via an analogue tv tuner card? But my wife uses a Sat for french tv-so, if i keep using that box, then, it too would be input via an analogue tv tuner card? so, i need to get a dual tv tuner analogue card compatible with vista mce?

TIA
Rob

Last year I got the TT which I took out after a month as it was not what I wanted, It was so hard trying to make it work correctly within ProgDVB or DreamDVB I just gave up and bought a FloppyDTV. Best decision I made on that front.

Make sure you have a Firewire port on your Motherboard/Sound Card or use a PCI expansion slot. Plug in a Blue Zeta Cam and then install the Media Center drivers. Write your fun card and then your away As mentioned previous you may have to modify your Freq list so you can pick up some channels as I had some missing. The in VMC you can just move the channels to the correct places I used Wiki

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_channels_on_Virgin_TV

FloppyDTV all the way

I've gone from eing all excited about my first HTPC to hating it (I had another thread aout a power issue I had and it wouldn't bboot but that's sorted now).
My Microsoft remote won't change channels on either my cable os sat bbox. I noticed when in MCE and I pressed the Channel up or down, it went up and down through the Vista menu ???? So, it looks like the channel up/down is sending the same signal as the navigate up/down buttons.
but if I was on the Music item on the MCE menu when I press up it goes to Online Media-so,equivalent to 3 navigate up keys and if I press up again, it goes back to Music.
Anyway, it's not changing my channels at all and it says that the only keys I can program are the TV, Vol up and Vol down.
Am I missing something really obvious ?
Oh yeah, I just got an analogue card from Maplin and drivers didn't seem to work - but should the MCE remote still be able to work regardless of having the TV card in ?

TIA
Rob
