Large motorised dish, a Programmable CAM like the Diablo would give more options from other satellites, but not Sky.

Yes we know where you are coming from. Its a FAQ from ex cable lads. Sky's encryption is secure (unlike the ropy old system VM uses)

Theres a very simple mantra we use for such questions:

You want Sky UK = you pay for it

You dont want to pay = you do without

Your choice

Hello Im new to the world of satellites, but I find the whole idea of receiving tv from the skies really fascinating. Also I want to check out the foreign channels as you can get a feel of a country through its TV, even if you cant understand a word they are saying lol

So do I need a motorised dish? or can I just move my dish manually to point at different angles in the sky?

One or two of our members do move their dishes manually but they must be hardy animals or they only change satellites occassionally.

The cost of a motor and mount for a dish is a lot less than a good raincoat so I would strongly recommend using a motor. There is plenty of advice and numerous guides here to help you do the installation yourself.

I started off with a second hand dish sitting on a car tyre and it did me fine for several years, although moving it in heavy rain wasnt much fun.

Now Ive got several dishes all wired into my dreambox, and its great fun switching between the various channels

Yes, you can do that if you want, but for about £45 odd, you can stick a motor on there. Plus of course a nice vertical wall mounting. ( T&Ks + short pole)
