i have a virgin smart card which says the same that the ATR string invaled. Does this mean the card has had it. Think i treid erasing the card in the usb phoenix programmer yesterday.

I'm very new to this as you can tell. only decided yesterday to learn all this stuff

you need to make sure your progger and softwar eis in pheonix mode before you make any assumptions as to the cards condition.

Something new for you to try. I have occasionally had a similar problem with various types of card. It's usually the more expensive ones that seem to suffer this way, ie not giving an ATR when put into a programmer. A trick that has always worked for me and others is to put the card into the CAM in my satellite system and ask the CAM to identify the card that it can see. For some reason, the CAM always succeeds and returns the ATR, and then, when the card is put back into the programmer, the programmer gives an ATR too. By "CAM", I mean Conditional Access Module, either Diablo or Dragon. It won't harm to try it.... Good luck.

Just to add that a variety of things can cause that error, card not beinf read by programmer, cable not in programmer properly. Just recheck everything and try again
