"You have non-standard equipment"

Just done a channel scan for the first time this year and noticed in amoungst the channels one called "You have non-standard equipme", on viewing the message:

"Please be aware the set top box you are using is unauthorised and you are commiting a criminal offence by using it to receive programmes from Virgin Media."

"If you have any questions about your illegal connection to Virgin Media's network and receipt of its services then please call Virgin Media's confidential hotline on <phone number here>"

I assume that this is simply a transponder which has been placed in a channel list only accessable if you do a brute force scan and a scare tactic - as the Dbox doesn't communicate back to VM there's still no way of detecting it without entering the property.

About the most exciting new channel I found though, my wallet wouldn't touch the rest with a bargepole!

Besides that, it is not a criminal offence (1) to use a non-standard box with a legitimite subsrciption card in it with the ability to only watch the channels you pay for. Just against the terms of the contract.

It's a common activity in the sat world, doubt it is for cable though.
