router works but can't sync own mac in ambit 250 haxorware

i have a cable feed to a virgin box that then goes to a wireless router. i unscrew the cable feed and screw it directly into a ambit 250 flashed with the latest haxorware. i then run ethernet cable from modem to pc and disable the wireless.

i insert the router mac address into the HFC mac address, turned off the router and typed in the config file setting. finally under TFTP after reboot it says unreg.cm. i tried other configs but still same. i don't know what config file as a router was used before but using cmreg-itntlhm250-rts98.cm i get the most success as more settings show up under overview. modem is not syncing but sync light comes on for about a second early on as if it tried to. i used the right frequency. btw i am running vista. all the lights come on except ready and sync. i thought i could at least use own mac in haxorware just to get modem online so i got a direct connection.

Am i doing it right?

is this the right mac address from the router?
is it not syncing because this mac address is for a router or virgin box and not for a 250 ambit modem?
did i use the right mac address using the router one? or has the virgin cable box got a seperate mac address too?
am i supposed to connect cable feed directly to modem or has it to be in the cable box first like it was for the router?
is router able to sniff macs if put it in dmz mode and use ethernet instead of wireless?

sounds like you are using wrong mac from the router.

connect to the status page via 192.168.100.1 and you should see some references to hfc mac, this is what you want to use.
