Default A million questions from a newbie - Pace Di1000T box

Where to start...

Many moons ago I used to play about with my (then) telewest services, as far as I remember I used a phoenix programmer and funcards, but was never really happy with the results, probably because I was using a signal booster in reverse to kill the talkback, and as such it killed the signal coming in - lots of freezing, blocky picture etc. Got bored and gave it up. A few months ago, wandering round the car boot and I see someone has a Telewest STB for sale, a PACE Di1000T (with card) for £8. Thinking I could cut the talkback and make a funcard as I did back in the day, I bought it, then promptly took it home and let it gather dust somewhere out of the way. I've dug it back out, and want to make it my little projet to get it up and running again, for as little money as possible. From my reading up, I believe I need my IRD (the 8 digit hex nagra serial code obtained from eng menu) and the bk (either led simmm or possibly on the DB if someone could be so kind as to look for me?). I'm rambling a bit here so I'll try to make this into questions.

1. Could someone look up my bk on the DB for me, it's a 1000T box and the Nagra Serial Code starts with a 12? If not then i need to buy a led simmm?

2. What is the best way to go with this box in your opinions? I'm thinking make a MOSC out of the card that came with it. From the log file on the box, I can see the box was last online on the 14/05/07.

3. Will my old (serial/RS232 connection) card progger be any use, or would I be better off buying a new one, if only for ease of use (i have no software or recollection of how to use the phoenix anyway).

4. Once I have my IRD, BK, programmer (either new or old one) and have cut talkback, I should be able to make this box work?

5. How can I tell what ROM type my card is?

Sorry for so many questions all at once, I've tried searching for the answers and I think I know where I am with this but it'd be nice if someone could confirm I'm on the right track before I start spending money.

Thanks in advance and all the best

Ok.

Your pheonix programmer would be fine for working with MOSCs.

The BK database can be found from the bigmaq toolbar, and i believe the wizardmods toolbar also.

You would be better off using a mosc than a funcard. They don't die anything like as often as funs. They will take some reading though, but its worth it imo.

On the back of the card it will say 010 or 011 followed by 7 random letters/numbers this will tell you which rom the card is:

010 - rom10
011 - rom11

Provided you have bk + ird the box should work fine when you have edited the mosc.

Thank's for the reply, and thank's to another member for my PM

Looks like my BK isn't on the database, so now I need to buy a led simmm(?).

When you told me the old phoenix progger would work I got all excited thinking I'd be able to get it up and running today, but it looks like I'm going to be waiting for some kit to arrive before I get up and running. The card I've got is a ROM11 so I'm now off to find some info on making into a MOSC (NagraEdit is required I'm sure, not too sure about everything else).

Thanks again!

You could try reading the card with you pheonix programmer & nagra edit 4.1.

There is a very small chance the card might be unlocked. If this is the case, you will be able to get the bk from the card by reading it with nagra edit.

Chances are that it will be locked, and you will need to purchase an unlooper, or if a member is willing, send them your card to be unlooped and they may unloop it for you for a small fee, some might even do it for the postage costs to return it.

If you decide you would like to unloop the card yourself, check the authorised traders section. Mikedata offers a dual unlooper, suitable for rom10 and rom11 cards. His service is excellent and the device itself is very easy to setup and use for rom10 and rom11.

Read up the MOSC pack in the downloads sticky in fta.

Any other questions ask away, and don't forget the thanks button

An important question that also needs to be answered is what platform are you on.

Pure ntl
Ex c&w
or Telewest

Just checking, you would do well to find out your network id and default symbol rate as you will need to set these on the box if it isn't already the correct netid/freq.

There are tutorials regarding setting the netid with funcards etc.

Best thing to do now is get into the eng menu of the box (DONT CONNECT THE CABLE FEED) check card status, netid, symbol rate, default frequency etc etc,

If the netid is not correct for your area you will need to read up on how to change it, there is a tutorial in the cable tv downloads link from the sticky.

You could also find info regarding when it was last used, any faults/error it might have had in the past etc etc.

You could also see if the box has been modded before by opening it up, as you will need to do this to cut talkback before using it on the cable feed anyway.

I have the same stb and some noob questions as well:
My box is a Pace 1000b with the talk back cut witch use to work here about 2 years ago before being packed away, I dug it out today day to see if it still works and receive only a handful of random channels. The box say its updating the TVOD settings but since the talk back is cut I don't think this will work, is there any way to fix this box?
