Question Media Center question

Hey,

I have built myself a 1080P media center

But I really want to watch cable TV including the non free to air channels though the media center so i can put the cable box in my bedroom

I have just started setting up Media Portal up on the system but I have no idea what cable card I need to watch the cable channels on the PC.

I also would like the option of watching one show and recording another that's on at the same time but different channel for example Lost on Sky one and The gagdet show on channel five. I would guess that I would need two cards unless the cable cards have two or more turners

What is your advise on this?

Thank you
Jon

Where about are you? UK? what provider? c&w, n*l?
I use a Technotrend C-1501 dvb-c card, it has 2 tuners on it.
I run MediaPortal and use mdapi filter and vplug to access the non-fta channels. However, as i've reported in another thread it aint working correctly right now.
It had been fine for months then suddenly it went screwey.

This, sadly seems to be the accepted norm with MediaPortal, its opensource, is developed constantly and imho has by far the best gui of any 3rd aprty app out there, bar none!
You can configure MP to use 2 tuner instances, but then you need a s0ftkey dot cam file to help out with that (i think).

I've had plenty of pratting around with my setup, but still cannot fix certain issues.

Worst case scenario would be that you get all the fta channels working fine through MP, but non-fta are hit and miss.

Are you sure mate? It doesn't mention anything on the website or documentation. Might have to give that a shot tonight to try out (although got GTA4 on PC two days ago and that's taking up most of my time at the moment!)

in order to view one channel and record another you need two tuners, how about using a dvb-c and a dvb-t which will be much cheaper.

ill experiment later on in the week when i have my floppydtv and dvb-t installed.
