Default Chat Window

Spotted on another vbulliten forum a chat window. That forum used it for general open chat between members for stuff that wouldn't go on a thread. Don't know if it would work or what anyone thinks to the idea. One of my thoughts is that this forum is much bigger than the one I noticed it on so not sure if it would work, but thought i'd throw the idea about see what people think.

Suppose if enough people think it would be a good idea it will be up to Brian in the end to give it either a yes or no.

Got to admit, never been keen on them. Looked to implement something on another forum a while back, but there are always concerns raised, not least with site security (we've already been the target of sustained attacks against the site in the past).

Also, a big reason Techwatch has such visibility online is because all the discussions are in public view, which means search engines can find them and help draw in other users looking for the same topic.

I know that doesn't apply so much to general chat, but I'd much rather keep the current system in place, where security liabilities are minimised, and any discussions are in public view for Google to find.

Hope that helps.

Also i seem to find forums run a little slower when browsing due to the chat window refreshing every so many seconds. On other forums that is.
