Default SB5100E on xbox live

If I am running my PC then switch on my 360 and try to connect to xbox live it fails to connect because it cannot acquire an IP and I have to keep turning the modem off and on to fix it so it works with live and I have to turn it on and off so it works with the PC so it really is frustrating.
I wanted to know how I can fix this as I have a dynamode ethernet switch running so I can run them both at once but no luck only either PC or live works 1 at a time.
I have DHCP server enabled but it still does not work.
Please help,
thanks.

As mentioned, get yourself a netgear or linksys router. They are cheap and easy to configure and often prove very reliable for home networks.

You can then connect pc and xbox to the router and need never reboot the modem (for this reason at least) again.

Isn't there anyway to use 2 I.Ps 1 for my PC and 1 for my xbox360?
I looked on microsofts help page and it said if you add an extra digit to the end of your pc's IP it should work if you have DHCP enabled but it didn't,
Thanks

What? no that shouldn't work. Are you running these both through a switch or a router?

You need a router so it can use NAT to allow both to connect through 1 external IP. If you don't understand any of that, google it.

cheers, fitz.

I am running both of them through a switch which is then connected to the modem.
I guess this ethernet switch is useless then lol.
Thanks
