I have a SG2100A motor that is working as it should. The only issue I have with the motor is noise it makes, it is very sharp and a little louder than I would like. How can I reduce the volume of this noise or at least make it a little softer? I have placed some sand in a pole which will soon be used with the motor, but I am a little concerned about it holding in moisture that will kick off the rust, is this correct?
If there are quieter motors out there, I'd like to know about them, please. Thanks, Sphen. |

Probably a bit over the top for a small dish, and rather expensive, and you need a V-box but the Jaeger 1224 is whisper quiet.

Thanks for the replies. One of these motors is definitely at the top of the sat equipment shopping list. I have placed layers of flashing tape on the body of the motor and this has helped a little with the noise, softening it a little. I'll probably flush the sand out of the pole, I'm not convinced it is wise, unless someone here says otherwise!
Driving the motor on a vertical channel is something I can do, but I'm not sure I could ask others in the house to do the same, it would spark mass confusion! Is it possible to force a receiver to drive the motor at 13v, then switch to 18v if needed? |

No but as said the StabHH100 for example, not a whisper.

I am lucky I guess, no need to hide any noise here, although my TM is not that bad anyway. Its fixed on a pole in the garden with no immediate neighbour issues, although I did fill the pole with sand also. got that tip from a pal prior to instalation. secret is to stop moisture getting in and sea salt on the top does the trick for me. seal off the top well though.

Not sure why you'd put sea salt in - that stuff attracts damp, liquifies, and then spreads out. Hope it's well sealed (you'd be better off with those crystals they use in some packaging, or the gardeners help - crystals which just swell as they take up water.)

Fantastic response guys. Thank you all.
I have removed the sand and using low speed driving 13v seems to be fine. 18v is of course much noiser, but I'm hoping that as I age, my ears will be less adept at hearing properly and this will no longer be a problem! ![]() I'll probably switch to a STAB motor sometime soon. Cheers, Sphen. |
