Default Hdmi switch

Hi

Anybody any advice on Hdmi splitters, switches.I have tried several with quality leads, and in all hook up combinations and I am not having any success. If I get one piece of kit to produce a picture on the tv its a triumph.I am running out of inputs on the tv and have had to resort to a component connection as I can not get any switch box to work.Any help appreciated.
