Hi all,
I'm having a look over at the dark side, having come from cable (actually I came here originally for sattelite, then decided to have a play with my cable box, now I'm back looking at sattelite). My dad has asked me to look at setting him up with a sattelite system. He has a good mounting point where he can see from 110E to 40W. He wants it for football, so I'm thinking I need to buy him a reciever (preferably a PVR), a motorised dish, a Diablo CAM, a CAS 3 and a viewing card? Does anyone have any advice or pointers to set me on the right track before I spend the next 3 days trying to learn everything about it and getting nowhere? The major stipulation is that is must be easy to use. I don't mind a difficult set up, just once it's up and running it needs to be simple, else I'll be getting more tech support phone calls from him than I really want! Thanks in advance. PC |

I assume your in the UK, in which case you won't get anywhere near as far as 110w. I get 45w to 62e but most get 45w - 45e with a clear view of the arc.
Technomate recievers are pretty good and easy to use. They aren't all that difficult to setup. At the mo your best option for football is 1w without a really big dish. How long that will be the case for though is open to debate at the moment.

When I gave the arc of his viewing, I just meant physically, not able to pick up signals from, but it leads to the first "proper" question.
I'd like it to be as future proof as possible, so what size dish would you suggest? I live in S Yorks, I assume that would be a contributing factor. What size dish would I need for 1W? Thanks for your reply PC |

The packages that you are interested in are easily achievable on a similar dish size but some of the channels may not be around for much longer, or so the bogeymen say. watch the forum for updates on info etc. good luck m8

You would be mostly ok on a 60cm for 1w, you may find as I did that you get rain fade on the nordic beams so safer to go for an 80 or get a performance dish like the triax td78, or the penta 65. If you can motorise and go bigger then do. I'd still recommend a performance dish. The triax come in 88 and 110 also and penta do an 85. All depends on your budjet and how big a dish you can get away with.
