Hi,
I am new to this forum so please excuse some basic questions. I have done some research on this forum and seems like Eurovox EX1000SL and Starview4 are good ones to have. Can anyone suggest me which one is the best out of these two and where should I buy the box i.e. with good after sale service, latest firmware update etc? Also, I have just moved houses and planning to get Vi*gin broadband only (no phone and TV), so whether is it possible to get Broadband + Box = TV?? Also, what kind of splitters should I use and what extra cables do I need? Thanks, Steve |

Hey.
The Eurovox EX1000SL is a brilliant box and I've yet to have a problem with. Very slick, small and tidy aswell. I have not used a Starview 4, however I definitely recommend the EX1000SL! Yes you'll be able to recieve television through the same cable, providing it's fiber optic! |

as for the fibre optic cable ... total baloney they dont use fibre optic cable for the signal for what you want it for. uses standard ct 100 full flood cable

As the two other lads have said, both decent boxes if all you want is tv without recording facilities.if you want a recording reciever then go for the sv4 or the eurovox ex5100.my personal opinion would be the ex5100 but others may say different

Boxes - I would support the eurovox 1000 as a basic box or if you want to FFD/Rew and record TV function the 5100PVR. I have a 5000PVR and haven't had a problem in over 12 months. I would suggest you read up threads on these forums on flashing your box and getting software to make sure you hit the ground running.
Connections - you will need a feed into your house to plug the box too. If you aren't getting the basic TV pack, you will need to get some cable to feed from your splitter for your broadband to your box (marked as TV on the splitter) and you usually will be supplied with an adapter when you buy the box that will enable you to connect the cable to your box. Next - Do a "fast install" (power scan) and get your channels and keep reading and learning as much as possible.. |

hi ,,
best cable box ??,,thats a tricky one,,you have got to look at whats going on in ireland,,and take this into consideration,, my choice would be a linux box,,these have the ability to cope with far bigger images,,ethernet connection (this opens up a few doors ),,,dreambox,,itgate,,d box 2 (old but still good) this is only an opinion,,but i think linux recievers will have the edge over closed source boxes (starview.euro) in the future,,,,, bumble |

I have both and the Starview (The Box) menu and controller makes it seem like a piece of ****. It is by far the easier of the two to setup and maintain but things like the EPG and Favourtites only scrolling let it down.
I have 2 Voxes (one being the PVR) and they are cracking pieces of kit. Simple things like the channel menu which shows whats currently showing on every channel is a nice touch when bouncing around, although the actual recording can be fiddly. I thik there is also a HD version out if money is no option. |
