hi,
I ve got a sat on the wall... 60 cm ? and a big sat on the ground 1.2 metres the big sat I manipulate manually and its usu on the german channels my big dish is on 19e (astra 1 ) and my small dish is on 28e (astra2 eurobird 1 ) have I got that right ? my small dish is linked to a sky box and is giving me bbc itv ch 4 etc the big dish is giving me german channels sky news, french channels and a ton of stuff. Anyway what Im really here to say is that my small dish ... the pic is breaking up, the dish is high on the wall, so Ill have to get a guy in to sort it out. What Im thinking is getting it repositioned to about 5 feet up the wall so I can get at the d...n thing... and in future , if it goes wrong, I can change an lnb or whatever. But before I rush headlong into all this, any advice ? .. like maybe some dish I can wall mount... maybe a little more than 60cm.... that I will be able to move manually, like I move the big dish thanks for any comments |

What make/model satellite receiver are you using?
I'd suggest you consider getting a motor, either for a 90cm - 1M dish on the wall or motorize your 1.2M dish. What satellites can you receive? Is your garden facing due south so that you can get the full arc? |

I think my big dish is on 19e (astra 1 )
and my small dish is on 28e (astra2 eurobird 1 ) i spent 200 sqid buying the big dish, thats it Im not spending more money on motors, positioners etc enough is enough but now my small dish... ie the one that gets 1tv bbc bbc3 itv 3 etc and lots more... is on the blink I want to move it so future repairs dont require ladder work, I can just get at it , like I get at the big dish yes I face more or less south but I thought, instead of just fixing the 60 cm dish on the wall, surely theres a wall bracket available that lets you move the dish... on a fixed arc etc, so... if I wanted I could maybe move it to a few other positions. but I suppoe, in the end, the guy will just come, resite it and fix is position I ve been getting picture break up for some time now but lately no pic atall. In fact tonite I cant even get the green light to come on ! o maybe the sky box is beginning to pack up ? Terrestrial tv is pretty aweful so without the satellite Im stuck with just the big sat ..... german etc there must be some way to get hold of the bbc itv etc using that big dish, but I can 't work it out Ive asked for a code before ....that I could punch in to my technomate box but no one has come up with anything. now I come to think of it its probably since the advent of digital and my new digi box ... since then I don t think I ve ever hit on any other satellites with my big 1.2 metre dish with analogue I always seemed to find a few, even if they were arab or greek and not much use. digital has a delay and they don t light up instantly in the way analogue used to. But you d think thered be a common digi code that all sats broadcast as a kind of marker it would make things easier for anyone out there in the cold moving the dish manually and watching a tv screen through the window..... by means of a mirror ! . Just reposition your 1.2M dish to pick up 28.2E, from behind the dish move it 9 degrees to the left, you shouldn't have much problem picking 28.2E up on a 1.2M dish, and you can quickly scan in the FTA (Free to Air) channels on your Technomate.
It might be your LNB that's packed up on your 60cm dish. |

Well, maybe the small dish is that high for a reason. Do you have clear line of sight to 28E?
If you do have clear line of sight low down, buying a motor for the 1.2, would probably be cheaper than getting an installer in to move the 60cm.

no probs, theres a clear line of site
yes thats fine, I turn the big dish to the left to pick up 28degrees east.... but what setting should I punch into my techmate in order to pick up one of the channels ? its a number isnt it 334433 V OR H or something, its so long since ive done this my techmate is going to have to be set onto one of the channels on 28 degrees but I need a setting. |
