Default Most Eurovox channels in Ireland can be retained, if you've a NTL box in another room

Was talking to an TV engineer, friend of mine earlier today...and he was saying to me that most channels on Eurovox in Ireland can be retained...but only if you have the official NTL box located elsewhere in your house (i.e in another room).

If you have an NTL box downstairs in your house, your Eurovox receiver upstairs will be able to show what the NTL box shows (i.e whatever you're legitimately paying for)...if you have Sky Sports etc on your NTL box, your Eurovox box upstairs will still be able to get Sky Sports...as the signal output from NTL is still coming into your house.

If you haven't got Setanta Sports 1 or MUTV on your official NTL box, these eventually will automatically go off on your Eurovox as the signal output from NTL doesn't recognise it.

You may find that you have to update the codes now and again, but if you are getting 86 channels on your NTL box, say downstairs...you will be able to retain these 86 channels on your Eurovox upstairs, as the NTL signal is automatically relaying these channels into your house...doesn't matter what pipe/cable you watch it on.

hmmm. not sure how it works. but again do you really need another box to watch the same channel. Eurovox is popular to watch everything (well almost)

Haven't a clue what you're saying there...did you read my initial post?

If you have 86 channels on your NTL box....then, if you happen to have a Eurovox box elsewhere in your house, you will be able to access the same 86 channels on it, as the pipe/cable coming into your house automatically recognises them.

In other words, yes you will lose channels on the Eurovox due to the card transfer, but if you have Sky Sports downstairs on the NTL box, your Eurovox upstairs will pick these up...in other words your Eurovox won't be rendered useless.

Well, say someone downstairs wants to watch sky sports, but the kids upstairs want to watch nickelodeon or something

...and you would be 100% wrong.

This engineer is a registered member of the SIPTU trade union here in Ireland, he is a professional TV engineer, all of my posts are correct...

...NTL are totally unable to disrupt the tv signal for the channels you've got on their box (the ones you pay for)...if you happen to have two or three other pipe/cable locations in your house, your Eurovox is still able to access all of the channels...fact.

Maybe he was confusing it with when it was pure N1 and with certain models that has RF loopthrough.

Fact is there is a new encryption, (N2 at the moment then N3), in place on certain channels and what you say is not quite true.

Cable carries an encrypted signal from the headend, your mate should know this. Thats why they have cards and STBs.

@ Smurf Ireland is UPC, which is ex NTL/Chorus.

this is what i was trying to say. As per standard knowledge VM transmits everything in the cable and its the box/card which unlocks all the channel. The new N3 card can only unlock the channel for that box as voxbox and other boxes have no clue as yet when it comes to N3.
waqasahmed, thanks for the pointer, all I wanted to say is that all of us buy the voxbox to watch all the channels and not just the pasic package channel and with basic pack there is hardly to watch anything so I doubt anybody will be fighting for telly
