Yes, this happens alot.

So far there are several possible ways to fix the problem, including changing mac, nic mac or router mac, and even changing the config.

What modem / firmware are you running?

Are you using a 00:02 mac?

I wouldnt go messing about with your modem to much , like i said i think vermin are the ones having problems. May be once they sort it out the modems will be fine again.

Yea if you look here there is a red light for broadband which indicates a problem.

It's been red for weeks. I've never seen it on green.

apparently, its red because they cant get it to go green. lol

i really hope this is a prob at there end. the 'loop system' mentioned in another thread doesn't really sound feasable.

what i know so far is this.....

you cannot renew a lease on a clone, only get a new lease.

the lease doesn't die, and modem doesn't go from operational, the traffic just dies.

i think that there is a prob with a existing registered modem/nic retreving its already leased ip.

if this is vermin doing this intentionally.....

1, they thought it up pretty quickly.
2, they put it into action pretty quickly.
3, its costing them money
4, it may possibly cost them customers

also, if my threory is any good, there is a lot of 'dormant' leases which, would cause further problems... like having twice or even three times as many connections to the cm service.

to VM: can you please stop now, we get the msg and promise not to force 50mbit anymore.
