It will continue to have issues and boot you, virmin are actively shutting down any modems forcing 50meg, why else would most people still be working if they only forced a 20 or 10 meg? I mean how many people in your area are actually subscribed to 50meg? Very few if any? Precisely. Mines been a bit crazy, but not needed to change the mac at all, still forcing 20, only needed two reboots.. Sure, the event log is full of crap, but it works and its been up now for 17hours, and was fine for nearly 3 days prior to that.

Everyone that has suffered downtime on 10 and 20 meg forced configs, has suffered because some people can't help but be greedy and force the 50, despite not getting anything above 36meg. As stated plenty of times by other people, virmin can see these modems forcing 50 meg, and are in turn acting to remove them from the network. It won't be much longer before virmin remove the ability to force on 00:02 macs, then the issues related to 50meg forcing will go away and the headache of lesser experienced members constantly whining about 50meg not working will also go away. Even with the subbed virmin modems, you are not receiving true 50meg, this has been tested by friends with such subscriptions, the 50meg package is a fad, virmin need money, customers want faster internet, do the math.

Our 20mbit mac is fine not changed it for months although I have not messed with 50mbit, what's needed to know is how many of the people having problems have messed with the 50mbit config file?

False, I know users who have the 50mb connection and always receive true 50mb. Them showing me it and the problems recently made me consider purchasing it legit before I lose the internet all together! Remember it depends if your in a fiber area and how reliable the connections and sub connections happen to be. In my area I have always received the true speed, not one byte less. So please don't believe everything you read in these forums!

'In your area..' Thats where exactly? Even you would be subject to traffic shaping, especially if its a subscribed modem, so how you get 'true speed' I would love to know.

'Traffic management' is set in the configuration, if you exceed a certain amount of bandwidth you speed is capped as with all the connections speeds available from Virgin.
The true 50mb is their however the bandwidth limit can be run down very quickly, in which case your speed is then capped to 20mb during peak hours. At all other times your speed will be the full 50mb and thats the time I do all my downloading anyway
