Default Splitting Feed

Hi.

Before, i had a cable feed going upstairs. I asked virmin for another cable feed going downstairs.

They didn't remove the cable going upstairs but they remove the connection to the main line.

I then tried to open the brown box and use a cable splitter so that theoretically, i can still use the cable feed going upstairs. But after fitting the splitter in the brown box, my broadband stops working. The TV works fine. I tried two separate splitters which i'm sure is working to no avail.

so what i'm doing is:

virmin feed -- (1)splitter -- (1a)downstairs -- (2)splitter -- (2a)tv and (2b)broadband

(1b) -- upstairs -- tv

upstairs/downstairs TV - OK but no broadband

Is there a special splitter i need to use for this to work?

you sure the modems still active? if it deffo works then it might be a case of u need more juice from the green box down the street, there is different bands of power to plug a feed into, higher up the greater the feed. u might be at the bottom since they believe u only need power to the tv! if u no anyone workin for vm they cud turn u up.. just say u need more juice coz u got splitters for tvs in every room n the box is choppy n slow.

If that feed was working previously signal levels should be ok. Try connecting direct no splitters. Also check if you have Power Pass or DC pass labelled on the splitter as connecting it to a splitter with this will not work you would need a splitter without DC or Power Pass.
Another thing it is rely easy for the copper threads to touch main copper wire on any of the ends if copper is touching you wont get correct signal for broadband check all connections.

modem is active because if i remove the splitter from the main box outside the house, the broadband works.

Do i just phone them up to ask for extra power on the signal?

The copper threads - Are those the sort of meshlike covering on the cable?

Thanks.
