i set one up for my mum at my house earlier. i went to hers which must be half a mile away and it hung at ranging.

its not a mac issue on either the modem or the router.

at mine, the tftp begins with 10.87 and at hers its the nomal new 10.137.103.8

i have nfi

on my modded modem the tftp and mac address are all the same so i know its not the addess or mac

try spoofing his subbed mac on the hacked modem idealy cloning his own subbed modem then see if you can get online? maybe the mac is the same ubr? aint a clue but ill offer my help anyway,lol

I had similar problems, subbed modem worked fine, modded did not.

I changed the serial no for the modem, the nic mac, the ethernet mac (on the modem) but not the modem mac, this is still the same mac traded a fortnight ago.

After rebooting and changing the config i was forcing to a different 20meg one, all worked fine. Been up since then, no issues.

I too use the new tftp server, currently on 10.137.103.3 forcing 20meg.

EDIT: If you cannot get things to work, why not try removing forced config, let it boot with the config tied to the mac. Or as suggested, why not try the subbed modems mac on the modded one.
